New England Lighthouse Lovers -  NELL

A chapter of the American Lighthouse Foundation

On Friday morning, the sunrise  was taken from the Ft. Fisher Ferry dock.  A short distance from the dock in Southport, just around the bend, is Price Creek light.

Later that morning we went over to Oak Island Light.

This photo shows the remains of the Coast Guard Station from the fire on February 1, 2002.  From what we could gather, they are planning to rebuild once funding is available.

Now comes the adventurous part of our trip.  At 7 a.m. on Saturday morning, seven of us journeyed down the Santee River  (Georgetown, S.C.) in Capt. Sandy Vermont’s John boat.

After weaving south through channels in the sea grass for over 10 miles, we were able to land at Cape Romain light (photo #11).
