New England Lighthouse Lovers -  NELL

A chapter of the American Lighthouse Foundation

Dear NELL Members etal,

In June 2006 NELL took a cruise of Connecticut’s Western Long Island Sound lighthouses with American Princess Cruises. For the members and non members that were aboard the American Princess you will remember the bad weather we experienced all day along with the deficiencies of the boat i.e. no seats/tables top side along with no real protection from the blowing rain as there were no curtains for the side of the boat. Not to mention the equipment failures.

On Oct. 7, 2007 I boarded the American Princess” at the Brewer Yacht Haven Marina, Stamford, Connecticut along with the Chesapeake Chapter of the USLHS for the same cruise. I spoke with Captain Frank DeSantis who was the Capt. on our cruise. Captain DeSantis stated that he had corrected all the problems that we experienced and it should not happen again.

I am pleased to report that Capt. DeSantis did learn from that experience and things went well. Everything worked as it should have. The crew was very friendly and accommodating. The food served was very good. Even the weather was good and there was no need to “check out” the side curtains that were installed topside. For anyone that was aboard this boat for our cruise that had a bad experience, I want you to know that with the improvements that were made I would recommend this boat to anyone. It was nice to see that people do learn from their mistakes. Congratulations and nice job Captain. I’m sure we’ll be seeing you in the future.
