Lexis

YOUNG NELL ARTIST HONORED

by:  Carolyn W. Carbone

NELL Junior Member Lexis Foster was honored recently when her art work was chosen for the Groton, (CT) Campaign Against Child Abuse 2005 Calendar “Drawing Wisdom From Kids”, sponsored by the Groton Department of Human Services Child Abuse Prevention Committee.

In 2004 Groton’s third graders were invited to participate in a poster contest as part of the town’s annual observance of child abuse prevention.   Students were asked to draw pictures that depicted what it means to feel loved, special, important and safe in their school, family and community.  From the more than 600 drawings submitted 12 were selected, one for each calendar page.

Lexis chose the shoreline near her home in Groton for her setting.  Her picture shows two people standing near the Avery Point Lighthouse looking out into the harbor on a beautiful sunny day.  Her picture is titled: “I Feel Safe When Someone I Love is Near Me”.

Lexis, whose picture appears on the March 2005 calendar page, was honored a second time when her picture was also chosen for the front cover of the calendar.

Lexis is the granddaughter of NELL members Ron and Mary Jane Foster.

Congratulations Lexis!!
