Coast Guard Heritage Museum receives accreditation

The Coast Guard Heritage Museum, located at 3353 Main Street, Rte 6A, Barnstable Village,  Cape Cod, Mass. receives accreditation as a legitimate Coast Guard Museum from the U.S.C.G. Office of Public Affairs in Wash., DC

As the warm weather approaches The Coast Guard Heritage Museum opens its doors for the summer season and all are welcome. Come visit and see the premier exhibit of the JULY 1956 collision between the SS ANDREA DORIA AND SS STOCKHOLM.  The museum has acquired the Pulitzer Prize winning photograph of the SS Andrea Doria just before she slipped beneath the waves . The photo came from the Boston Herald newspaper , courtesy of John Mahoney, Photo Editor.

Also on display is our exhibit of the Andrea Doria china and dinnerware which came courtesy of 3 divers who collectively have been to the site of the wreck over 200 times.

Our other major exhibits include a number of hand made small boat models, dioramas of CG surf men during WW II, a beautiful handcrafted model of the historic CGC 36500 motor life boat,  a collection of over 100 CG patches from around the world , and CG Uniforms circa WW II , all from Mike Maynard of Pawtucket , Rhode Island.

Last Saturday a huge collection of artifacts arrived with a fellow from Beverly , Mass. The collection includes a 1940's era Chief Bosun Mates Dress uniform, his personal possessions from a 21 year career which began in 1924 , including several medals, boat models, and much more .

We've started a HALL OF FLAGS, which includes a US Treasury Dept. Flag, a Vice Admiral's Flag, a huge 5 x 8 ft. 45 star American Flag and lots more .

When you're on Cape Cod this Summer, please spread the word that the Coast Guard Heritage Museum is full of artifacts from many facets of the US Coast Guard's history, and we're open for you !!!

My respects to everyone,
Doug Bingham
