Dear NELL Members, Well the big day has come and gone. I hope you all had a Merry Christmas, enjoyed your holiday and that you received what you hoped for. I'm sure you were all as good as I was, ergo you got what you wanted. :) I have some good news for those that would like to participate in our Project H.O.P.E. work parties. I heard from Bill Jenkins from Race Point and he states he "is planning on trying to paint the remaining portion of Long Point and the Race Point tower next spring (2012). They both need a little "spritzing" and we need help. Maybe NELL could lend us many hands!" I notified Bill of the time of our spring trip and this work project might possibly be set up around then. Most of you are aware that the tides have a lot to do with the access to Long Point lighthouse so all we can do is hope for the best. Bill will keep me advised and in turn I'll do the same to you. So if you think you'd be interested in this Project H.O.P.E please let me know and I'll start the list. Remember, it's first come (signed up) first to go. If it's as it has been in the past, we can have about a dozen volunteers. For those that don't know and for our new members, you will park your car in the parking lot by the rangers station and be driven to the R.P. lighthouse and the work lighthouse in the suv's of R.P. You will also eat and sleep in the keepers house or whistle house. Once the dates are set the members will be notified of all the necessary information for this trip/work party. Attached is a letter to Santa from Race Point. Please take a look at it and if there is anything that you can donate to them it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Regards, Tom Letter to Santa from Race Point |
